Miriam Laurence Studio – Integrated Acting System enables actors to discover an individualized technique. Working with Miriam leads towards highly skilled and intuitive acting style in theatre, television and film. Through rigorous and far-ranging training techniques, actors investigate a personalized path of self-discovery that they can apply to both theatre and film acting. Actors gain the freedom, the information, and the knowledge to explore the many choices available to them.
Training encompasses acting exercises drawn from far-ranging sources: relaxation, vocal, physical and sensory techniques, emotional connectivity, text analysis, auditioning, monologue and scene study. Classes are supportive and ongoing, with special attention paid to the process of constructive feedback. Actors have found that studying with Miriam over a year or two builds their technique and forces them to take risks more effectively than going from teacher to teacher.
Special attention is paid to the technique of acting with the camera. Cold reads, monologues and scenes are filmed on hd video cameras. Students supply their own disk and take it home for private viewing at the end of the session.
According to the needs of the individual actor, Miriam’s approach integrates:
Audition Skills: Monologues for theatre, cold reading and improvisation
Warm up techniques
Strasberg relaxation (chair work), sense memory and Song & Dance
Adler, Hagen & Meisner method approaches
Short prepared scenes
Long-term scene study with partner(s)
Practical on-camera skills
Work on scripts from plays, television and film
Classes are offered September – June: Saturday and/or Sundays: 4-6 hour classes with 8-12 actors in the afternoon-early evening at a downtown studio. Intensives are sometimes offered in the summers. No Records Found
